I am a beginner practicing the postures of Bikram Yoga. They keep the studio temperature at 99 - 106 degrees. There are 26 postures repeated at each session. The heat warms the muscles and reduces the chances of injury. It also clears toxins through much sweating!
Tonight will be my 5th class. I have bursitis and a bad rotator cuff. After 4 classes I am feeling better in my shoulder and hips but still experiencing some back pain. I also eliminated red meat and chicken from my diet when I started. I've lost 5-6 pounds in two weeks.
My research tells me this a great yoga to healing chronic disease. I'm overweight so the instructor has modified some of the postures until I limber up. Doing 10% of the posture is better than skipping a pose as they are in sequence.
So, does anyone practice this style of yoga? Experienced health gains? Any negatives?
