Friend ... well someone who accepts you just for who you are. Common interests but yet different interests. Someone you can laugh, cry and be silent with. A comfortable safe relationship where you can completely be yourself and know that you are loved, appreciated and important. You can lift each other up on a bad days, share lifes little pleasures. One you can laugh, cry and celebrate life with.

I don't know about on here, but once upon a time I had three girlfriends who spent two weekends a year fall/spring, tucked away in a mountain cabin, sitting before a roaring fire in flannel PJ's, telling sexy or funny secrets, eating, laughing and crying. As the years went by, we all moved away and drifted apart. I wish I had friends like that again, Everyone is so busy now, if it ever happened again I know that it would mean less laughter, less sexy secrets, less eating!
I can tell that just by our emails.

I happened to see and read this thread yesterday and so I've given this subject some careful consideration... I considerate it a huge bonus if you happened to meet someone you have good chemistry with on here and if they live in your area and you get together with them and form a friendship, you've hit the jackpot IMHO. I don't believe I'm searching that out but if it should happen I'd feel enormously blessed! For me I just kind of let the cards fall where they may and I love people all kinds of people, and have met some wonderful people here, which again, has been a true blessing. It's sort of like watching the pot for water to boil, if you're watching it seems like it never boils...I apply that philosophy to "searching for a friend", I think most likely it'll sneak up on me. It's a funny subject for me to be writing about because next Tuesday I have a lunch date with a fellow TBD'er whom I never met in person...My hope for us both is that it goes well and I have a sneaking suspicion it will go well...I'll keep you posted either way. "Wish me luck!"

Nicely stated, I agree.

Sense of humor and intelligence.
It would be nice if there was some commonality of experience, but not too much.
